Although not a direct part of the curriculum, I wanted to spend a bit of time focusing on the provincial election and the issue of low voter turnout. Many of the conflicts of the 20th century were fought out to preserve democracy and personal freedoms. Despite this voter turnout for the 2013 Provincial election was recorded at 52%. A very dissapointing number. Advanced polls had predicted a landslide NDP victory, but surprisingly Christy Clark's Liberals won a majority government. For this activity you will read about the election, attempt to predict your vote using the Vote Compass tool and write a blog about your thoughts on the BC election, and why Christy Clark shocked the pollsters.

Step 1
Please read the following article about the shocking BC Liberal win and why the polls were so innacurate, http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2013/05/15/bc-election-pollsters-wrong.html

Step 2
Complete the Vote Compass Survey and determine your voting preference.

Step 3
Write a 250 word blog post about who you would vote for and why (you can add a screenshot of your VoteCompass results), your opinion on the low voter turnout and why so many young people in BC choose not to vote and the Liberals surprise victory and why the pollster were wrong.
